The reconstruction of the airport in Krywlany was one of the most-anticipated investments in the region. For years, the inactive runway required a solid modernization. Transformation of the airport for public use is aimed at improving the technical infrastructure. Not only tourists, but also border guards or air ambulance services will be able to use the airport.
The runway, 1350 m long and 30 m wide, was paved with asphalt concrete, while the grassy shoulders were reinforced with the geoSYSTEM L4 airport grid. The grids were filled with soil and sown with a special mixture of seeds geoGRASS, which works well in difficult conditions. The grid was also used to protect the end of the runway (RESA). Over 43,000 sqm of geoSYSTEM L4 grids have been used throughout the area.
Modernization of the airport will allow servicing passenger planes with up to 50 people on board. In addition to the shoulders there was also a runway of 840 m by 160 m with a grass surface, a board for turning the aircraft, taxiways and parking aprons was built. The reinforcement with the geoSYSTEM L4 airport grids has preserved the natural character of the space while at the same time securing the area against the formation of ruts.
